DT | NHA helps 309 people in Ilocos Norte with their homes | LAOAG CITY – Super Typhoon Egay victims in Ilocos Norte received more over PHP3 million in financial aid on Monday from the National Housing Authority (NHA).

At the San Nicolas Mini Cultural Centre in San Nicolas town, 309 recipients received either PHP20,000 (for completely destroyed residences) or PHP10,000 (for partially damaged houses), according to Jefferson Ganado, regional manager of the NHA.

The distribution initiative is a component of the Special Emergency Housing Assistance Programme (EHAP), which is designed for the families that were most negatively impacted by the Egay crisis in July.

The NHA said that the delay in grant delivery was due to the need for on-site field validation of the damaged homes and requests from the beneficiaries to submit photographs of the real damage to their properties through their local government agencies.

During its three-day assault in Northern Luzon from July 26 to 28, Egay caused massive destruction and billions of pesos in damage to buildings, infrastructure, and crops.

In addition to the housing assistance provided by the NHA, Governor Matthew Joseph Manotoc said during the ceremonial distribution that all Ilocos Norte households with damaged homes will also get construction supplies courtesy of the province government.

Almost 3,700 galvanised iron (GI) sheets have so far been supplied by the Ilocos Norte government.

Around 877 families with completely and partially destroyed homes also got emergency housing aid during the Sept. 11 Marcos Day celebration. (via PNA)
