DT | ‘Serbisyo Fair’ services are provided to 80,000 Ilocos Norte inhabitants | LAOAG CITY – During the opening of the Bagong Pilipinas Serbisyo Fair (BPSF) at the Mariano Marcos State University here on Saturday, the “Kadiwa ng Pangulo” programme was one of the most-visited booths. It sold fresh food and other things at discounted prices.

Vilma Viernes, a mother of two, said in an interview that she went out and got well-milled rice right away. The National Food Authority sells this rice for PHP25 per kg, and it comes from nearby farms.

About 80,000 people from Ilocos Norte signed up for the BPSF over the weekend.

Farmers, women, business owners, students and people who drive public transport were already at the venue at 5 a.m. to claim their spots and take advantage of the services offered by about 40 national government agencies.

Claudio Guira, who is 89 years old and lives in Barangay 55-B Salet-Bulangon, got money from the Department of Social Welfare and Development. The money was brought to his daughter’s house, where he is recovering from a recent illness.

“I am so thankful and blessed that our government officials and workers have the heart to help those in need,” he said.

Young workers Jenesee Madamba from San Nicolas, Yna Blanco from Paoay, and Emma Guillermo from Pagudpud signed up for a pre-selling programme of rent-to-own houses in Barangay Talingaan through the Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development.

Madamba, who is 26 years old, said that the deal is cheap enough for young professionals. In her case, it’s a good job at the right time because she wants to move soon.

“A rent-to-own house can be pre-sold for PHP2,500 per month, which will be paid back over 30 years,” she said.

There were also free talks with lawyers at the Integrated Bar of the Philippines and the Public Attorney’s Office.

Residents of Ilocos Norte who want to take part can still sign up at https://www.bagongpilipinastayo.com/.
